Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces growing in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
